Foraging for the Non-Forager Online Class

$15.00

I have two conures, Maui and Rosie. I have had them their entire lives, though Rosie I got when she was young on a rescue call. I got Maui 21 years ago, and Rosie 11, and back then, I knew very little about foraging or at all with Maui. When I did get into foraging, Maui and Rosie were paired, and they never seemed bothered, so I did not focus on it. When I wanted to start many years ago with them, as I was redoing my enrichment program, I found it VERY hard to get them going. They did not care about toys, and they were not eager to work. They only liked safflower seeds, which are pretty hard to use for foraging. After a month of working on it, they became expert foragers. Years later now, their skills are just as strong as my moluccan cockatoo.

I developed this class because when I was struggling, I wished I could just get the magic answers. It was not because I was not educated enough or had enough experience, but because I wanted it to be easy for me. Sure there were a lot of examples, but none that my unskilled birds cared about. I want this class to be for everyone who is struggling getting started. For the people who have just learned about this topic, to people with their first parrot, to people who have been decades caring for birds but wanting easy solutions and ideas.

Join me, Melanie Canatella, for this up to two hour class on June 7th, 2025 at 1:00pmEST to learn all my foraging secrets for the birds who could care less about foraging. This class is online through Zoom. I will send over the Zoom link to your email, so be sure to use an email you check at checkout. The class is recorded, and all participants, despite your attendance, will get a copy of the class recording. There will also be a Q&A at the end of the class for you to ask me questions you may have about the learning materials, as well as tell me about your bird(s)!

Here are some of the topics we are going to be talking about in this online class:

  • Finding valuable reinforcers

  • Feeding the appropriate amount to make foraging a success

  • Desensitizing toys crash course in case your bird is a bit afraid

  • Starting steps

  • Over 20 foraging ideas for inexperienced foragers/birds who are still learning

  • When to increase complexities within foraging
